I need help. I watched P2: Dead Man's Cheast last night and I am a bit confused and it has been killing me all day to know the answer.
Ok, so why in the movie does Jack not want to destroy the heart of Davy Jones? I understand that jack owes him his soul, but why when Will tries to destroy the heart does Jack stop him? Won't killing the heart get rid of Jack's deal with Davy Jones?
So if someone could please let me know b/c it is really bothering me.

Ok, so everyone pretty much has said the same thing, but what is the kraken? Is it the sea monster that destroys the ships? And why is the kraken after Jack?

whoever has the heart of davy jones can control the seas. since capt. jack is a pirate, and pirates like to take stuff, he wanted the heart so that he could control the seas and be free of his debt because he would also be able to control davy jones and the kraken (yes, its a creature that destroys ships that davy jones, or whoever has the heart, tells it to destroy). and because whoever has it can control the seas, it should be very interesting in the third movie because now Lord cuttler beckett has the heart.
if they destroyed the heart, said beastie would never cut off its chase after capt. jack. and yes, davy jones would be dead, but the kraken would not die. no one would be controlling the seas then.
i'll go through why people want the heart:
-capt. jack: wants to be free of his debt, become captain of the black pearl again, and to control the seas
-Will: wants to free his father
-elizabeth: wants to save dear William
-Pintel and Ragetti: want great fortune
-Norrington: wants to give it to Beckett so that he can regain his high position in the royal army
-Beckett: wants to control the seas so that East india trading co. can be the most powerful in the world
-davy jones: well, he wants it because its HIS heart!

Because Jack Knows That With The Heart, He Can Make Davy Jones Do Anything..........anything, as in call off the Kraken, Since The Kraken Is Out To Get Him.

Even if Davy Jones is dead the Kraken will continue to hunt Jack. So Jack wants to offer Davy Jones the heart back in return for him calling off the Kraken.

He who controls the heart, controls Davy Jones and the kraken. Jack wants it to lift his curse, Will wants it to free his father, Norrington wants it to control the seas for financial gain.
The kraken is the monster. It is after Jack because he is cursed with the Black Spot-- a pirate's death sentence.

he doesnt kill him b\c if he kills davy jones,who will stop the kraken from destroying jack?only davy jones can stop it.
the kraken is the big monster that destroys ships.it wants to kill jack b\c davy jones tells him so.davy jones wants to kill jack b\c jack owes him his soul,b\c he(jack)wanted to be the captain of the boat named the black pearl,so davy jones gave him the black pearl and let him be the captain for ten years,but now davy jones wants a payment for what he did(it's a debt).the payment for the debt is that jack gives him 100 souls.but sloppy jack doesnt pay him,so another solution would be that jack gives davy jones HIS soul,but jack doesnt want to ,thats why he wats to kill him.

Good question. I think Jack wants to be sure that the Cracken's mark will go away and is taking no chances. There is also the idea that Jack's a scoundrel but doesn't like killing people.
What I can't figure out is why all the ghost pirates from the first movie are human but the monkey is still undead? How did that happen?

Jack needs to hold the heart hostage so Jones will call of his terrible beatie. If Jones is dead, there's nobody to call off the Kraken. Will wants to kill the heart to release his father. Norrington wants to give the heart to Becket to restore his ranks. Beckett wants the heart so he can control the seas.

b/c whoever has the heart of Davey Jones controls the seas, and also controls the Kraken. see, if the heart was stabbed, then the Kraken would have still been on the hunt for Jack.

Davy Jones' sea monster is after Jack and Davy has to call off the sea monster before he dies or it will not stop.
