my son has this 1999 s10, it just quit running one day. he thought it was the fuel pump. but it runs for the 2-3 seconds it is supoose to. but when you push in the vavle to see if any fuel squirts out it only squirts just barely. but the fuel comes out great out of the front of the fuel filter under the truck. I told him to that it could still be the fuel pump. so they changed 2 new ones and neither of the new ones would kick on. i think they done something to wiring. i told them to hook up the old one to see if it would kick on. but now i think that it is the fuel pressure regulator. we need some helpful advise. fuses are good and the filter has been changed.

when they replaced the fuel pump, did they remove the bed? are they trying to start it with the bed off?the fuel pump module grounds towardsw the back of the frame where bed is bolted to frame..if that all seemsok..turn the key to the run position and leave it there for 30 minutes and see if the factory security module has logic locked..make sure battery is chrged fully when doing this.after 30 min, dont turn key back, just turn to starting position.also timing chains can get slop in them if mileage is high and is a 4cyl..good luck!

Oyes young little money and the truck wont run. I gotta love that kid! Ok lets follow the yellow brick road. Point A the gas tank Point B the fuel pump Point C the fuel filter Point D the reg. Point E the carb. If it has a carb. And it could have a sock as we callem on the fuel pump if its in the tank. Anyway The book ya got to have the book. cost less then the fuel pump. If You have gas to the carb. etc. One You dont have enough pressure or your trouble is the carb throttle body or what ever the dang thing has got. You say the pumps dont kick on? You only have to wires, One hot with 12 volts and one ground. Hook a test light up to the hot wire and watch to see if when the pump stops like You say the light goes out no 12 volts. Aaha if it does why? You say its not popping a fuse well check the ground. you could loose the ground not pop a fuse but it wont stay on. Its all to easy to jump from one thing to the next when Your not sure what Your doing. Slow down back up and think. You have got to prove 12 volts and a good ground. Once the pump stays running if the truck dont start and stay running then You start down the yellow brick road. to the reg, carb. throttle body etc. My email address is posted if You find You have good lasting flow out of that fuel pump email Me I might be able to put My hands on a book for this truck. If that's the one (4.3) V6 with the injector (spider injector unit) inside the plenum chamber than I'm 90% sure its bad. they go out on those types a lot
ADDED LATER: here I just found this too off the net...
Occasional problems on this vehicle are failures of the Fuel Injectors, 4.3L Vin W and Vin X engines only, Crankshaft Position Sensor, 4.3L Vin W and Vin X engines only, and the Air Pump and Hose Assembly. Failure of the Crankshaft Position Sensor may prevent the vehicle from starting.
ADDED:here is a pic of the unit http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=CRB&PartNumber=238886&Description=Fuel+Injector+-+New It takes less than an hour to change with the right tools. but the unit is expensive. You will need the unit and the plenium chamber gasket to do the job. NOTE: A couple wires come out of the plenium chamber, make sure they are not broken. I've seen one that the wire inside the insulation was broke and when the engine would vibrate it would sometimes run rough or die. (they power the injector unit)

if it turns over ok it could be frozen first u can hear the fuel pump run if u listen close to the tank ad hav someone else turn the key on its more likely theirs water in the gas causing the problem needs to be started and fuel deicer put in the tank if it hasn't been done in a long time a fuel filter is probably plugging making it worse.

it is either a bad fuel pump fuel filter or in tank fuel pick up screen if it is electric fuel pump with a fuel pressure guage you should read 45/50 psi if carb read 4/7 psi

Take it to a shop and have them diagnos the problem, if you have to pay for an hour of diagnosis then YOU are ahead becasue you're not paying for useless parts that are unneeded.
