Majoring in business management wouldn't be a bad thing per say. What you will really need is the money to put down to buy a building or a backer for your apartment company. Then you will need to become familiar with your states landlord tenant laws. It's very hard work being a landlord and it's very easy for an apartment complex to go bad. You would need some good financial backing to make it profitable.

What you learn in college won't guarantee you anything. However, if you can find a few real estate courses in the Business department, that will help. On the other hand, if you have some skills, like plumbing or electrical, it will help you grow your holdings faster, cuz you'll have less expenses to pay out.
Best of luck to you.

To buy them you just need enough money, but to manage them properly you need good business sense. Take a couple business/property courses and see if it fits you, if it doesn't then I'd suggest you go with something else before you end up in deep debt.

I recommend that you study Business Administration, and concentrate on Real Estate and Finance. Good luck.
An option is to find a lucrative career elsewhere and invest your earnings into real estate. I was in sales for years, traveled a lot, lived on my per diem and expense checks, banked my salary and invested my commission checks. It worked out well for me.

You don't need any. All you need is enough money for a down payment. A finance degree or something might help you run them well though.
