Hey, does anyone on here know where I can get a good, free, anti-virus program/download? I've used McAfee, Norton and AVG. AVG is my most current, but the version is due to expire this month, and I'm going to need a new one, any advice/websites etc would be most appreciated.

I like AOL Active Virus Shield. Don't let the name AOL fool you. Active Virus Shield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, Active Virus Shield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

Active Virus Shield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb)

And it updates 15 to 20 times a day with new virus definitions, 7 days a week.

Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

Avast.com

1) Download the Free Home Edition:
http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setupeng.exe

2) Install it, no to boot time scan.

3) Restart your PC. Right click the "A" in the taskbar, and select the second option from the top ("Start Avast") .

4) It should ask for a key. Register here:
http://avast.com/i_kat_207.php
Don't worry, they won't spam you. They only use it so send the key (I use my personal email).

5) Copy and paste the key from your mailbox. Hit "OK" and it'll go on.

6)If it finds anything while starting up, schedule a boot time scan. Otherwise, just go into the program. Under automatic updates, click on Database Only, and a box will appear. Switch "Program Updates to Automatic".

While it is a bit of a pain to set up for the first time, avast detects most viruses, is fast, and is free. Every year or so (14 months) you have to put in a new key, but it's a minor inconvenience for such an excellent program that keeps itself fully updated.

Hope this helps!

AVG is still free. The old 7.1 version will expire but you can download the newer 7.5. I would recommend you to try a better free antivirus here http://www.free-av.com >>>>IT works great and it will catch all viruses that AVG missed. Believe me, i've tried them all.

ok' Now for the reality. there's no such ingredient as a "suitable loose AV" All loose AV's have there safe practices holes. even as it consists of loose AV's there all turds. What you may do is %. the only which stinks the least. AVG, No root kit safe practices, won't be able to eliminate 0.5 of what it exhibits, valueless junk. Avast, No heuristic scanning contained in the loose version except for digital mail. You visit a area it really is contaminated with that style virus it received't hit upon it or eliminate it. there are various of viruses that i personally considered Avast unable to eliminate. Avira, Has issues updating. It also has issues of faults positives. The time for a good AV is in the previous your laptop receives contaminated. a good number of people on right here will allow you to comprehend that the pastime of a good AV is to freshen up later on. it really is a few thing that i got here upon to be a lie. a good AV will keep it from happening. the in consumer-friendly words one I honestly have considered so a techniques that works that way is Kaspersky. in case your laptop is sparkling it truly is going to stay sparkling with Kaspersky on watch. you are able to receive all that loose junk in case you pick and be conscious if it truly is going to sparkling it off. yet there is in consumer-friendly words one AV as we communicate which will keep it sparkling. Kaspersky. (EDIT) the only below me has no theory what there speaking about. by way of the time you receive any loose AV, Then a loose firewall you'll use more effective memory then a all in a unmarried might want to apply. it truly is effortless understanding that AVG & Avast with a loose firewall will use more effective memory. yet another one among those lies i become telling you about. loose AV's and firewalls use more effective memory. it really is the reality. every person who says they don't are both mendacity or do not comprehend what there speaking about.
