do you have to have oringinal sims 2 game to play sims pets?

i want to buy the sims2 pets game but im not sure if i need the regular sims2 game?

yes you need the original game too if you are buying the PC version to play on the PC
but not if you are buying the sims pets game for a games console

Yes, you have to have the base Sims 2 game in order to run Pets because Pet is an expansion pack.
Pets won't run without it.
