FAO Conie: I have every recording ever made by Tom Waits. I bought then in good faith. It must have ben displaced!

His early stuff is phenomenal. His more recent work is just bizarre. Maybe some people "get" it, but it eludes me.

I'd have to agree, it's just you. Tom Waits is a genius and will go down in history has one of the greatest songwriters to ever live.
Of course listening to popular music nowadays it's easy to see why someone might not like him. He is so completey different than what the masses are used to. But if you give him a chance and listen to his lyrics and focus on the atmosphere he creates with his songs you might find that you like him.
