For value - your best bet is either Barbary Coast or the Flamingo.
The Barbary (like the Flamingo) have a central strip location. You can get ANYWHERE from 'there'. The monorail is nearby.
The Barbary has a free shuttle if you want to get to the Gold Coast or the Orleans.
The beds at the Barbary Coast are fine. It's a smaller hotel - so check-in will be a breeze. If you need to be waited on hand & foot, it wont be for you. But, it's nice, it's clean, it will get the job done. The casino isnt bad either.
Try one of these 2 links for some GREAT info
cheapovegas.com (excellent info & humorous)
coastcasinos.com (info regarding GC, BARBARY, and Orleans)
Avoid Circus Cirucs at all costs. Way way tooooo many kids, strollers, etc. The casino is run-down. And, you'll need to do a lot of walking if you're put in the back tower (which is usually the case if you're going for the cheaper hotel room). The location of the CC also is pretty bad.
Bally's is a good property. It's older, but they just did a renovation.
If you're a low roller, you'll want to hit
Casino Royale
Barbary Coast
Imperial Palace
You probably wont be in your room too much, but once you ARE IN IT, the extra $5 or $10 a night will make up for it.
Harrah's just bought the BC.. so, i'd jump on it before they make it ugly.
Also, the BC has 40inch plasmas (flat) in every room (nice!!).
Mirage, T.I., Bellagio, Mandy Bay, Paris, Monte Carlo, Aladdin
(( these are all nice places, but you're looking at probably $100 per night ))
Excalibur
(( stay away, the service keeps on sliding!!! ))
Harrah's
(( folks on our message board refer to the hotel rooms as VERY plain, basic, ordinary, or just 'blah' ))
Tropicana
(( may be worth a shot, the room will be OLD, but clean, safe, etc... it's sourth strip, but you'll have MGM nearby & the 1st monorail station! ))
MGM
(( this is a goliath hotel... easy to get lost in... TONS of walking req'd ))
NYNY
(( good hotel, fun casino.. rates may be $80 to $90 per night... but rooms are SMALL!!! - fair warning ))

Check the Palace Station Hotel it is not on the Strip but if you are renting a car you can move around and it is about 6 minutes from the strip. Rooms are big, and very clean. They usually have nice offers starting at $25. They offer a very nice rate on the breakfast buffet and you don't have to wait in line if you stay there. One thing to check is that inLas Vegas all hotels change their rates during Fridays and Saturdays when they double the rate. The rest of the week is cheaper. Also the parking lots on all the hotels are free so if you have a car you just park in any hotel and walk up and down the strip. Wish you a good trip. You'll love Las Vegas!

you can try any of the internet booking sites to get an idea-The Imperial Palace,Tropicana,Barbary Coast, and Riviera Casinos are lower priced casino/hotels. I have found that going to their website directly is sometimes cheaper than the big internet bookers like Orbitz etc..I would not recommend the Excalibur or Circus Circu-they are DIRTY and crawling with little kids

Circus Circus is the best deal.
Clean rooms and reasonable pricing.
They're not very fancy but they're nice for the price.
Good luck and have a great trip.
