You can work as an actor on stage work behind the scenes in the theater. You can be a stage manager or work as a drama teacher in a high school.

* You can go back to school and get a higher degree and probably be more marketable.

There are so many things you can do with a degree in theater you have a more open doors in the entertainment world than the struggling screenwriter and actor.

Theatre majors are just like 90% of other college grads. When they graduate, they go out and get JOBS.

I mean, think about it. History majors don't necessarily become historians. Math majors don't necessarily become mathematicians. Theatre majors may or may not find work (or a career) in the performing arts, but I'd say that, in terms of entering the job market, they're certainly NOT at any disadvantage.

After all, if you've trained as an actor, you should know how to embrace a position and back it vigorously. That's what actors do when they play a role, isn't it? So, as between the political science major and the theatre major, who's likely to give a better account of themselves at a job interview...?

My advice? Don't tune out during your general education courses...that "real world" stuff might come in real handy sometime.

If you have enough money you can start your own theatre. You can audition for roles. You can help produce and/or direct a play or a movie. You can partner up with a therapist and use theatre arts as therapy. You can even teach teachers how to get students interested in theatre. You have many options.

Exposure is what runs the business, and lots of it. A degree helps, experience is better. If you need some exposure visit this site and follow through with the instructions since it will cost you nothing and give you exposure to all the pro's.

it depends on your degree I guess but if its general like BFA(bachelor of fine arts) then you can get a lot of jobs but if you want to continue ACTINg then you get an agent (by preparing a resume, headshot/photo and a cover letter) and send them your info. Soon you'll get a representation and they help you find acting jobs, from there you can work on directing and stage managing, set design/build as well=D
-->up until getting an agent and becoming an actor is what my much older friends did!

You could get a teaching certificate so you'd have a back-up job. My mom suggested I do that for a possible music major.
