Is there much difference between 2.00GHz and 2.16GHz? Is it worth $163?

The system I'm ordering has 2 gigs of RAM. I didn't know if the processor would be much different. Gaming machine.

Oh, it's a Core Duo 2 if that matters

The difference in clock speed it too small to be significant. Look for differences in CPU cache & bus speeds...those will matter.

Pricing on Intel CPUs is more often a matter of supply & demand rather than performance based.

If clock speed is the ONLY difference I suggest you keep your $163 & invest in on a higher end video card.

Your games will benefit much much more from that than a 7% increase in CPU clock speed.

Your question is pretty straight forward but then the question details fog that up a bit.
With that said. No I would not pay $163 extra just to go a little faster
I tend to think of an upgrade as sort of like a trade-in
I give you this worth 100, you give me that worth 150, I pay 50
sounds like you a paying for a entirely new processor without getting to keep the old one

no it is not worth the extra your only moving up .1 mhz read up what the difference will be on the manufactures web sit to make any difference you need to move up at least 4 points even that would not make that much difference to you... it's better to have more ram that would give you the speed your looking for...

if you have the extra money go for it, but if you don't it doesn't make much difference, what you want is a large L2 cache like 1 or 2 megabytes. if it's possible try designing an amd computer because the processor is better.

You wouldn't really notice a difference. It isn't really worth it uness you just want that extra tiny bit of speed.

Yes, its worth the difference, providing it is totally compatible with your RAM, and the chip is not some AMD rubbish.
