I recommend "The Philosoper and the Druids" by Philip Freeman. It gives an excellent overview of how the classical Greek influence was spread throughout history. Happy reading!

Being a Greek or at least of Greek extraction, third generation, if I was to ask this question I would ask the Librarian at the Library of Congress' website. At: loc.gov. Try that site or go to a college site and check their history department.
