Actually it's not relaly high pitched, it's more of like they're pushing more air out of themselves when they're talking, it makes them sound exhausted.

They feel cornered, or defensive. They may or may not be lying, but the question clearly makes them uneasy. They may be afraid that if they answer the question without lying, the answer will make them look bad. I get the idea that they perceive your question as a threat.

The question that you asked might be one that penetrates their defenses. They could be afraid that an answer to the question will revel something about themselves that they would rather keep secret.

Obviously, you hit a wrong nerve.

Scientist have made many studies on this subject. Some companies hire "body language readers" just to view others in companies conferences.

Scanning the rooms at some of the workers. hoping to catch a glimpse of trembling lips, sweat rolling down the brow, etc. This is why the lie detecter was invited. True I'm sure others have made an art form of "reading" others expressions.

There are those, however that have been able to master their emotions in-order to fool the system sort of speak. You must look at the whole picture to get an accurate reading.

My personal view on your question: This person could be lying.
