I've seen listings where the bidder wins an item for a penny and I always wonder what's in it for the seller.

The seller pads the shipping cost enough to turn a profit.

Ever wonder how the same item sold by different sellers ship at costs that run between 1.95 and 12.95? This is where the padding comes in. Sneaky, isn't it? the seller is hoping you will pay more attention to the actual bidding price -- and ignore shipping cost.

Lots of sellers sell stuff for a penny but if you look closely you will see that they more than make up for it with very expensive shipping rates. They also save on sellers fees going to ebay this way too so don't be fooled, check shipping and handling rates before you buy.

i can bet that they never-ever did sell anything to the buyer for a penny.
it is all trade techniques of fooling the bidders or the true believers.

once u register and bid on such a site, your e-mail will be continuesly flooded with bid options.
let me explain the trade tech. they use....

for example : an ipod cost 10penny
a] u bidded 1penny
b] ebay bidded 3penny and outbidded you.
c] ur email box is flooded with bid options and reminders to overbid.
d] this way it goes on.

if u stop the bid below 10penny then ebay will never sell u the ipod...they will over bid u.
on the other hand if ur maximum bid amount reach an amount equal to the cost of the ipod then ebay won't outbid u, and will let u purchase the product.....

see how they fooled u in beliveing that u r the highest bidder, and also sold u an ipod that u never ever did think of buying before.....HA....LOL

All of my auctions start at a penny because it's a lower listing charge that way. I also get all of my posters from work (I work in a video store) and shipping is calculated by USPS based on zip codes and package dimensions.

If they sell it for a penny then they most likely have a big shipping and handling charge.

Some people sell stuff on ebay purely to get rid of it. I guess they just dont want to throw the stuff away...
