I want to be a veterinarian once I get out of college and I want to know if they get paid a lot. Do they make much as doctors?

The middle half of all vets earned between $51,420 and $88,060 in 2004. The lowest-paid 10 percent earned less than $39,020 a year. The highest-paid 10 percent earned more than $118,430.
Of all jobs, being a doctor usually pays the most money. The Medical Group Management Association's Physician Compensation and Production Survey says that most doctors earned between $133,000 and $321,000 in 2004. How much they earned depended on how long they had been doctors and where they lived. It also depended on how many hours they worked and how good a doctor they were. And it depended on what kind of doctor they were—specialists usually made more than general practitioners.

Right out of college, they make about 30k a year for at least 5 yrs in most cases. After they establish themselves and get their own practice, it is usually about 50-80k a year. Very rarely do they make over 100k.
Consider a human doctor- just a family practicioner no specialization. The usually make 80k or so the first 3 yrs, and are over 100k by the 5th yr. Drs, if specializing, can make over 200-400k a year. There is a huge difference in pay.

Vets usually work for themselves. So I would imagine that it would depend on their clientele. I know the vet I used to work for, used to pay himself about $900 a week.
