Either the pump or the fan. If all is working okay don't worry about it. In fact on second thoughts, I believe that your boiler has a motorised diverter valve so if it's only a few seconds that's a more likely answer.

To start you did the right thing to call the technicians, second try to warm a bit of brandy and put some honey in, I don't think you have any problem with the boiler must be some connection from the boiler to the heating or/and the thermostat I have to draw them (boilers) on the plans and some times the connections, Robert C might be right as well. They will have this wee machine that would read what's the problem and will know right away. I feel so sorry for you, hope they can fix it soon as they arrive. And if not just warm a bit more of Brandy he he. Wish you all the best and give you a star for good luck. Kisses and hugs.

Depending on how old the boiler is it could be the air intake within the combustion chamber.I have had to call Vaillant out to a few boilers that I have installed in the last few years. They have all had this problem. All vaillant do is make a hole in the air intake within the boiler as it is caused by the different air pressures within the boiler. If your boiler is less than 2 years old phone Vaillant as it will still be under warranty.Alternatively phone them and they will come and sort it but you will have to pay.

The humming noise can come from any of three sources, all electrical. The fan motor, pump motor or zone valve solenoids. If it is coming from a motor, it means it is drawing a large amount of amperage (current) to overcome the inertia of a stationary rotor and is indicative of a motor going bad. Plan on replacing the motor if cleaning it doesn't help. If your valve solenoids are humming, the coils are drawing a large amount of current to open the valve(s). Plan on replacing the valves.

Inducer fan noise maybe? It seems to be a common problem. I've seen ones where the inducer fan made noise if the boiler was really cold when it started, but not otherwise.

Sounds like the boiler fan to me. When the fan bearings are cold, they do contract slightly so when the boiler starts up this is what makes this noise. as long as it doesn't get any worse, your okay.

it could either be it making that noise while it heats up or an air lock. Get it checked if at all worried, or mainly peed off with the noise!!
