When writing an introduction first begin with a sentence that will spark the readers interest. The second sentence should give the reader an idea of what you are going to write about. Be sure to use the first person only when asked. Next, include your thesis which, when writing a five para. essay, includes the three main topics of your paper. The final sentence should be a transition to the body of your paper. Keep in mind that you may have more than the number of sentences stated above. If you have less then the intro. may not include enough information. If you're having trouble coming up with the topics for your thesis statement, write the body of the paper first then come back to the thesis.

Professors and teachers seem to like it when the introductions states "this is what I'm going to write in this essay." depending on the type of composition you could also include "why I am writing this" in the indroduction as well.
It might be easier to write the body or a brief outline first and come back to the introduction later.

Decide what your thesis statement is and put it in your introduction.
Your support paragraphs should follow, and your conclusion will restate your thesis in the last paragraph,
