personally,i wouldnt worry too much,i know thats easy to say,but if she is waking up,but getting herself back off to sleep, try to relax, make sure she has plenty of fluids so that she doesnt dehydrate, she sounds like she's got a typical flu,but i understand your worries, doesnt matter if its your first child or not,i've got 4 children and still worry when they're ill,its natural, thats what parents do.but as the saying goes a mother knows best,if you are REALLY concerned, phone the emergency doctor.wish i could help more.

i would call them back and add the diarrhea. they sounded educated and friendly and will be able to tell you if this new symptom calls for an emergency. can you get someone or go get a new thermometer>? good luck and just make sure she stays hydrated ask the nhs line what they would reccomend you give her to keep her hydrated. this is going to be the best thing you can do for her until she can be seen. and as always you are her mother, you and only you know when something is not right. if you question as wether to take her to the er dr or not is your decision. if you feel she needs to be seen then by all means take her in. i'm a first time mom and took my daughter at 2 weeks into the children's er for a slight fever and congestion, and all they did was pick a booger out of her nose. don't be embarrassed by it if it is nothing. that's part of the fun with being a new mommy. i know laugh at our er bill for her first big booger! you'll do fine. listen to your instincts and do the best you can. it's all any of us can do. good luck and hope she's feeling like her little active self soon!

Kiss Mom: NHS Direct is short for the National Health Direct, which is a free service open at all hours for all citizens in Britain. It gives emergency advice and help. The Emergency doctor is provided by the local NHS, also free. But people here don't like to abuse the service incase while they are wasting their time others may be out in danger. With a very young child better safe than sorry is my oppinion.

Best thing to do is to follow your instincts. Dont worry about bothering people or being a nuisance, if you feel you should call again, then do it. If she feels really hot and you cant take her temperature then maybe you should take her to the doctor immediately just to be on the safe side, babies and fevers can be dangerous. If she just feels a little warm and is sleeping, then I would take her to the doctor in the morning. It is hard to know what to do in these situations, I am a first time mom too and havent had to take her to the emergency room for anything yet, but she has been ill and its scary not knowing what to do. Utilize the resources you have and call nhs again to, if nothing else, alleviate your anxiety.
hope this helps

Sorry I am not sure what nhs is but if it is your doctor's office, I would call back. I would also run out to get another thermometer. They are cheap. A thermometer is a great tool in determining your next step. I would use infant tylonol if she does have a fever over 100 degrees. Fever in combination with diarheah will dehydrate her quickly so I would get the thermometer and then call the office again and follow their directions. Best of luck..

I find that simply kissing her forehead gives you a rough indication of whether they are too hot if your thermometer is unavailable. Strip her down to just her nappy if she feels too hot for now as a high temp can cause fits. However diarrohea is very dangerous in babies and it's always better to be safe than sorry so run her down to the hospital and it will take them 2 minutes to check her out and put your mind at ease , they'll completely understand your worry. Babies will sleep if they are too hot as they become very lethargic when they have a temp so this is not ness a sign that all is well. Just run her down to the hosp or run to the overnight chemist and get a thermometer first. Hope all is well.

Sounds like my 19 month old son...give her infants tylenol for the fever and pain... I would call the doctor to find out how much she should have. I would recommend getting a thermometer to take her temp. My doc says they usually don't panic on temps until they reach about 104 degrees F. Could your daughter also be teething???? I use vicks vapor rub on my son's chest, and I also have a vicks vaporizer in his room to help with breathing. You could prop the head of her mattress with a pillow as well. Unfortunely colds just have to run their course, and that could be a week, or so, but until then try and keep her as comfortable as possible. Please see a doctor asap!!!

Hi, I think you should take your baby to the doctor. I checked in this book I got (also 1st time mom) - When my child is ill - and I tried checking on the symptoms you mentioned. It can either be that she has a cold, influenza or it could be measles as well. It can also be something like gastro-enteritis. Better get her checked out, because there's so much illnesses. Hope she gets better soon.

Since you're are going to the doctor in the morning, I would say no. Just make sure that you give her lots of fluids. Pedialyte or gatorade if that is too expensive. There is really nothing they can do for the diarrhea. When my daughter had the stomach flu, after a week of diarrhea and vomitting, they gave me a prescription for suppositories for the vomitting. There was nothing they could do for the diarrhea. Try giving her some oatmeal cereal, it has lots of fiber and may help harden her poo up a little bit. Just make sure you offer her lots of fluids so she doesn't become dehydrated.

This happened to my daughter and I understand your worries. I don't mean to sound rude but use your brain. If she has diarrhoea then you need to ensure she is still getting fluids. If she is asleep then let her sleep, it wouldn't be fair to take her out in the cold, late at night. Be prepared for a restless might yourself. If you feel she needs to be seen then get her seen whatever anyone else says. At the end of the day it's best to be told your being over protective than being told she should have been seen earlier. Give it 15 minutes, then go and sit next to her and make your decision. You are there with her and if your not happy then it's your choice.
I hope all is ok. xx
