Hot water kills more germs, but the germs should be gone by the time the dishes are rinsed. So a cold rinse would save you energy.

Hot water kills more germs than cold water, but if you are putting them in the dishwasher, the germs will be killed in there. You're just wasting money by rinsing them in hot water.

I really don't think either kills any germs. Hot water has the potential to, but I think it must be very hot...like boliling. And, to kill germs in water, you have to boil it for seven minutes, so I don't think either hot or cold water makes a difference.

cold kills less germs than hot ...so it is better to use warm or hot because the heat from the hot makes the germs go away quicker than the cold water.

Whether I wash dishes by hand or dishwasher I would always use hottest water. I thought that would kill the germs. If you are talking of germs wash them separately. You are suppose to soak the dishes before washing them.

The way we do it at my dining hall is 5 steps. One, scrub or spray the food off the dishes. Two, wash the dishes in soap water, following the temp and concentration directions set my the manufacturer. Third, we rinse the dishes in water. Fourth, we soak the dishes in sanitizer solution following the companies concetration, time, and temp directions. Last, we let the dishes air dry.
It is called the three sink method becasue it takes three sinks.
