the heater only pumps out cold air around the car and also the engine is noisier than usual when the engine is shut down. It sounds like the fan is still going round but is revving too high. There is plenty of oil, water and coolant in the engine.

Hi there,
When I read your question, my first thought was water and oil levels then you go on to say that the levels are ok.
I would suggest that you have the engine checked by someone competent, it does sound like a temp sensor or similar fault, could be a thermostat fault as well. The manufacturer I work for had a similar problem which in the end turned out to be faulty controls, the clamp which holds the cable in place that controls the hot and cold would break and automatically return the cable to cold resulting in perm cold air, depending on which model your mini is, the heater controls could be either cable or servo controlled so there is something else you could check, cables or connectors.
Good Luck
Cheers

if you are not losing water and the only problem is that the heaters blowing cold it could be as simple as a fault with the cable controlling the on/off valve which is basically a tap on the heater supply hose system.A way to check it is for you to get a friend to switch the control (heater knob)inside the car as you look at the engine compartment ...if you can find the cable from the control knob in the car. See if its connected to the tap ok.They can pop off easy enough.Worth a look......

Sounds as if it is the thermostat. It could be your electric fan stuck on all the time. Also if you have air-con check that it is not on andthat the air-con fan is off also.

my car was doing that and then a little while later the head gasket blew maybe it's worth getting it checked at the garage to try and avoid huge bills if it gets worse.
