Skinny jeans and leggings worn with tunics are in. Plaid was in for fall but should start waning as spring approaches. Purple is a big color (in makeup, clothing and accessories). Yellow will be in for spring. The newest "it" bag is a huge Chanel bag that looks like a trash bag, but to each her own. Layering is a winter standby and is always in.
As far as not goes, super low waisted jeans with short tops are definitely out. Wide leg, poorly fitting jeans are out. Leg warmers, arm warmers and the like are too 80's and are also out.

I would recommend checking out seventeen magazine. I love all of the fashion advice it gives to women of all ages! You can also check out there website. If you are wearing a jean skirt leggings are super cute and big belts or over-sized bags are also really hot right now. Check out some clothing stores websites and get some ideas! Good luck.
