My son is 5 months old.....at 4 months old the pedatrician told us to start stage 1 baby foods. I am not sure how often to feed these to him, every feeding, once a day, when? I give him 1/2 jar in the morning with his bottle and a whole jar at night with a bottle before bed. throughout the day he is only given formula. He is a big child already, in the 90th percentile in length and weight, I DO NOT want him on Maury Povich when he is 2 for being over weight...LOL! His father and I are both tall and stout people (dad 6'8", mom 5"8").Also, when is it OK to give a baby a cold bottle of formula without warming it up first?

You sound just like me!!! My daughter is 5 months old I feed her cereal in the mornings and the evenings right before bed. milk for all of the other feedings. She is so big already, She weighed 8 1/2 pounds when she was born and is 85% in weight and length. I worry about her being to big, but I am kind of proud too because I have always been small. Her dad is 6'4" and 250 though. Her doctor says she is very healthy because she is tall and big. So I image if he is 90% on both length and weight it is okay. (The times I feed her cereal now is what my doctor suggested.)

I do give her cold formula sometimes. She seems to do okay with it.

as far as the cold bottle hes good now just not super cold. the food just try and introduce a jar at each bottle feeding that is around the brecfast lunch and dinner there not going to eat the whole thing. and if they do make a bottle maybe a once or 2 smaller do this 3 times a day and see if they eat alot of time this is just as it sound introducing. the more they eat the smaller the bottles need to be at that feeling. still give the regular amount of formula when there is nothing else offered or eaten also if you are worried about how big he is getting maybe stay away from the fruits just yet. sweet potatos are a great place to start.

If he is eating all of the baby food and still eating all of the bottles you give him each day, then he is fine. The reason the kids on Maury are so big is cause at 6 months their parents start feeding them people food. If bigger people run in your family, then don't worry about it. It's all genetics. Also, you can feed a baby a cold bottle at any age. Just some kids don't like them. Room-temperature is best. But sometimes you gotta do, what you gotta do. Trust me I know. Hope this helps.

maybe add a veggie into the middle of the day. as long as your baby is progressing continously in his height and weight chart and staying in the same percentile no worries about maury yet. as for the cold bottle of formula we started our daughter on it around 5-6 months and gave her a sippy cup with formula in it to play with at mealtimes. you're doing fine. he's going to be a big guy just from your height alone and will probably require more and be in the higher percentiles. it's normal. just don't introduce baby foods high in sugar, such as triple delight and peach cobbler and the like. although they are tasty for you if you like. i did, but shouldn't have, lol. also watch some baby foods are extrememly high in soduim. stick with the lower sodium low sugar content of the desserts. and offer as wide of a variety as you can. my daughter fortuanatly was introduced to solids in the spring and summer months and we were able to get them from the local farmers market. and now at a year she eats better and more healthy than we do. as i tell my husband there is no reason for her to look like us. fat and unexercised. really right now he can be maintained just fine on formula the jar food and stuff is more for his practicing to eat more solids around 9 months than anything. your dr should have some good tips for you at his 6 month check up. write these questions down on a piece of paper now and take them with you, you have so much going on with him right now it's so easy to forget these types of questions. good luck to you.

We used to mix the cold cereal (which you should warm up) with a little formula and applesauce. Watch your consistency. We fed it to our boys in the morning and then before bed. They always slept well with full bellies, of course.

Avoid cold formula. Think of it like coffee for them. Would you want to drink cold coffee that's meant to be warmed?

About the cold formula thing; I've always given my daughter cold formula, she just likes it better. She is nine months old, is doing great.

Fruit and veggies will not cause weight gain. Make sure you feed either homemade or all natural foods made without sugar.
