What is the number of valence electrons in Group 17 elements in the Periodic Table?

b.) 8
c.) 17
d.) equal to the period number

Well c. doesn't make sense because there can only be a maximum of 8 in the valence shell (unless you are dealing with a transition group which this is not)

d. Number of valence electrons is dependent on group number, not period number so this doesn't make sense.

b. I believe group 18 (He, Ne, Kr, Xe, etc.) has 8 valence electrons, so I don't think this is right.

I would choose a. if Group 17 contains F and Cl.

The number of valence electrons is the group number so the answer is 7.
