The largest study of the health effects so far was by Kaiser Permanente. They surveyed the health records of 65,000 patients over a number of years. They found no significant differences between the health records of those who smoked pot versus those who didn't.

The reason that people think that marijuana grows hair on your palms and other awful things is because the US Government has had an openly admitted campaign of lying about it since the 1930s. Shortly after the laws were passed, the head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics walked out on a bridge over the Potomac River and saw before him a field of cannabis that stretched as far as the eye could see. He knew then that the marijuana laws were completely unenforceable on his meager million-dollar budget. Therefore, he figured that the only way to deal with it would be to wage a campaign of stupendous lies -- Reefer Madness.

For example, the US Official Expert on marijuana said that marijuana could make your incisors grow six inches long and drip with blood. He testified in court, under oath, that when he tried marijuana, it turned him into a bat. You can find an excellent short history of the subject at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/whiteb1.htm

You can find a ton of research on marijuana at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer It includes the full text of the largest goverment commission reports on marijuana ever done. They all concluded that marijuana is not a serious threat to health. They also said that marijuana should have been legalized long ago because the laws do more harm than good.

Don't accept answers without references to the major research, above. Most of the people who answer these questions here have no clue what they are talking about.

In my opinion, alcohol is much more dangerous than grass...
If society knew in the early 1900's what we know now about the perils of drugs and alcohol, alcohol would be the prohibited substance and marijuana would be sold in corner stores....how sweet would that be!? The government "sells" grass as being "bad" because the stuff growns naturally and they haven't found a way to regulate that particular "industry" and until they do, we'll go on ssssmokin it all !!!

The big problem with marijuana is that "THC" is fat soluble. Over time, THC will accumulate in fat cells, which is leads to short term memory loss. Vitamin A is also fat soluble, it has the same effect when to much is taken.

It is a stepping stone for harder recreational drugs as well, in most cases.

It is more physiologically addictive than physically.

I know a 55 year old guy who has smoked all his adult life (i've known him 22 years) and he can't finish a sentence without drifting off. He has bad chest, health problems, is paranoid and generally depressed. He is not much of an advert for the stuff is he?

it is sandpaper for your brain!, everytime you use pot, you lose more brain cells. yes it is true that if you overdose on it you will fall asleep, - another words, you will have a 'pot sleeping spell' but unless you are positive you are alone, (like locked inside a room) someone could take advantage of you while you are out. you will wake when it's out of your system, don't expect to wake up automatically if someone touches you either

only a loser uses the stuff!
