I think Hermione is smart, brave and capable. I see her as Harry's conscience, and the human, common-sense aspect of the lead character (the angel sitting on his shoulder whispering at him, whereas Ron's the other side?). She has a mature sense of right and wrong unblinded by the moment's urges, and is the one who's leading them into their adult sensibility as far as romance and growth into feeling, thinking people. She's straightforward, uses who and what she is to get things done that need doing, and tries to be the best she can be. As her character has grown in the series, I think she's become more fully-fleshed as a likeable person - I don't know about being like J.K. Rowling, but I think she's very far from a stereotype. I'm not as fond of her in the movies as in the books, but I like her very much indeed.
