Dunkins is a Massachusetts staple. I personally dislike it, but I am one of very few! It was started in Quincy (just outside boston) and therefore at one time was a local store. Now it crushes many of the "local" businesses. My theory why there are so many is that they make them really small so when people see a line they are willing to go a little further down the road to the next one and people are willing to open more because they are lucrative.

People here are addicted to Dunkin, which started here. Dunkin drove out the newcomer to the area, Krispy Kreme, because everyone preferred Dunkin's coffee, breakfast, and donuts. Starbucks is here too but it isn't bothering Dunkin.
Dunkin is now owned by a private company and they have buckets of money to open new stores and try new menus. They will be on every corner in your neighborhood too, very soon.

My tour company found there were 121 Dunkins in all the neighborhoods of Boston. But that was five years ago. They just opened another in Southie. I'm guessing around 130

Well it started in Boston. In many cities you'll see a Starbucks or something else, just as often. In Boston, we are just lucky enough to have a Dunkins everywhere! It makes it easier because the lines are still always so long, so you know you have a choice of where to stop.

People that don't like church bean dinners decided to offer other good Boston food to people and the Dunkin' people started misspelling doughnut on signs and they really caught on in Boston, and now all over the world.

Probably for the same reason there are Starbucks on every corner.
These chains think they will make more money if the stores are right there in your face, everyone's faces. All you have to do is know it is there to be tempted to go as often as possible.
