If the father has asthma the mother can not get it from the fetus.
Yes, if the father is allergic to seafood than it is possible that the baby may become allergic to seafood. If the father has allergies, it is possible that the baby may inherit these traits.
However, a mother cannot catch anything from her fetus or baby that is inherited, and a fetus will not have an allergic reaction to seafood as the mother's body protects the fetus.
The best thing to do to prevent asthma is take the child outside, expose him/her to cats and dogs and dandelions and grass.
Let the child eat a little dirt.
Docs have know for years that you can decrease the risk of allergies by not being an allergy and dirt phobe.
Please read some pregnancy books--they'll help you understand the connection between the fetus and your body.

Are you pregnant now? Congratulations, if so! If not and you're considering pregnancy, get a checkup first and take your list of questions with you. It's so smart of you to consider you and the father's health issues first. My friend didn't realize until after her daughter developed sickle cell that she and her husband both had the recessive gene.
Professionals are the way to go. Giving them a call or asking during an appointment will ease your mind! And a peaceful pregnancy is good for both mother and baby. Good luck to you!
(Btw: Seafood allergies develop much later, not before birth...and asthma isn't contagious. But ask your Dr, Midwife or Nurse anyway! The health of you and your family is too important for heresay.)

Asthma is not contagious. The mother will not get it by carrying the child of an asthmatic father.
Some food allergies may be heriditary though. It's always a good idea to proceed with caution if there's a known food (or medication) allergy with parents. Check with your pediatrician before giving your child foods with a high allergy potential.

Asthma is a very serious disease and i take offence to this post. I'm asthmatic, and anybody thinking i could give it to them by accident in any way shape or form is just ignorant. Think about it. Yes it is possible for your baby to have asthma as the father passed on his own genes to the baby, and yes it is possible for your baby to be allergic to seafood... the same as it is possible for the baby to have brown eyes or blue eyes depending on your genes... but no way in hell can YOU "catch" these things.

My husband had asthma as a kid and outgrew it as a teenager. It wasn't possible for me to get it, but my son has seasonal asthma because he inherited my husband's genes for it. I don't know if my second will have it, but we'll find out. Food allergies may be inherited. My husband's not allergic to any foods, but I am allergic to clams. My son doesn't eat clams anyway, so I'll never know if he is, too.

No, to your first question. It's not contagious. As far as the allergy, yet, the fetus could possibly be allergic to shellfish as well.

It depends on MANY factors. Asthma, like diabetes can "skip" a generation.
Allergies to seafood are RARELY passed on.

No. You can't catch asthma from your unborn baby and both asthma and allergies don't affect babies inutero.

My goodness this one is a dumb question. Still I guess if you don't know you just don't.
No, asthma is not infectious. Allergies aren't either.
