The ONLY "perfect rhyme" for Melanie is "felony". But see below for ideas of some very usable "near rhymes".

(A perfect rhyme must match EVERY sound, beginning with the vowel of the syllable with the main accent, to the end of the word.

In this case that means the word would have to end with /EL-uh-nee/.)

For a good NEAR rhyme, the best bet is a word in which ALL the vowels match ("perfect assonance") and any consonant at the end matches (none in this case). All of the examples listed below do so. But of these the best will be one in which as many of the consonants as possible match as closely as possible. (For an example of "close" -- "m" is VERY close to "n"; "t" of "d" (or "th") match fairly well with an "n", because they are formed at the same place in the mouth.)

So, here is a list of possible near rhymes, roughly grouped from closest/best bets to more distant:

Bellamy
melody, fidelity
Penelope
velvety
celery

ebony, hegemony, telephony, destiny

heredity, levity, brevity, longevity, extremity
amenity, celebrity, equity, obscenity, serenity, entity, identity, Kennedy
enmity, solemnity, indemnity
empathy

elegy, effigy, emery, telemetry

One other possiblity -- though R changes the pronunciation of a preceding E a little, so that the "e" of "er" is not exactly the same as that of "el", etc., sometimes it will be close enough to work. In that case, you might also be able to use words like the following:

barony, errantry
verity, severity, clarity, rarity, asperity, celerity, charity, popularity, dexterity, sincerity
