My Dad died of the side effects of Emphysema. And amazingly enough after smoking 68 years he DID NOT have lung cancer. But emphysema reduces the oxygen getting to the brain and every other organ, so slowly but surely they all stop working.

Make sure she is taking in plenty of liquid, flavored waters, or cool water or tea. Sipping frequently. With out fluids the kidneys start passing brown liquid.

Dark urine is a sign that the kidneys are not functioning well.
The following should help that out.

If she will do it, drinking unsweetened cranberry water made from cranberry concentrate will really help the kidneys. It flushes the poisons out until she will have clear or slightly yellow urine.

Health food stores carry Cranberry concentrate. It is $16.98 a pint in Florida. That will make two gallons. She should drink 6 to 8 ounces before every meal. Mix 8 ounces per gallon of water.

It works wonders for Urinary tract infections, bladder and kidney problems.

Help her breath in Vicks vaporub to break up the congestion in the lungs. The little sacs in the lungs are ceasing to work. So she can't get enough air.

I'm assuming she was a smoker, although I guess you can get emphysema in other ways I just do not know how.

Any kind of lung congestion with Emphysema is very dangerous.

God Bless.

I don't know what the stuff she's coughing up could be, but the pinkish brown stuff you mentioned sounds like it could be dried blood... and for the color of her urine i'm not sure what it could be...have her go back to the doctor, because the urine thing doesn't sound good...has her breast cancer come back? it could have spread to other areas and that could be what's causing the dirty dishwater color to her urine. I'm sorry I couldn't give much more information for you. I hope she'll get better soon.

Emphysema and COPD ( Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) can cause blood (pinkish color) in the sputum. The fact that she is probably coughing really hard is irritating her lungs and causing them to bleed. Unless she is coughing up tissue or large amounts of blood, I would just keep an eye on it. If it gets worse, get het to the ER. The urine is something entirely different. We void what we put in our bodies. The fact that is dirty dishwater color, leads me to believe that she has not had that much to eat or drink for a couple of hours. When we have a cold we do not like to eat but we need to maitain the level of nutrients in our system. When we fail to put in, our body uses what we have in store and gets rid of them through urine and bowel movements. Sorry to gross you out. Try a sweetened soft drink and maybe some solid food if able to eat. If not, soft or a liquid diet would be called for. Try lightly seasoned mashed potatoes and some jello or chicken broth with some crackers. Whatever you, push the fluids or she will dehydrate. Good Luck!

This woman sounds very ill. Definitely, hound the doctor until she gets some answers. If anything bad happens to her, you'll be sorry you didn't do more to help her sooner. As for the doctor, he won't really care, she's just another patient to him.

In my opinion...I would call the doctor back...sometimes...you have to be on a doctor's back...NEVER let the doctor get back to you...he'll get busy...and get back to you "when he can"....be persistant...and call his office very frequently. This is what I would do.
