I frequently use Wikipedia for research and have so far found it to be both reliable and accurate.
I do believe you where once allowed to add your own infomation to pages but think that this had to be stopped after people posting nonsense.
Whatever you do find on wikipedia it may be of use to go and check else were the information came from .... the sources should be at the bottom of each page.

normally it is ok but it is edited all the time by users so don't completely trust it
it is fun to go on there and click random article and insert "im coco for cocoa puffs"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
