Most printers come with an installation disk which you will need to insert ans run before connecting your printer to the laptop - if you have this CD which should be in the packaging the printer came in - insert it into the cr drive and follow the on screen prompts - normally you have to fully install the osftware on this CD before connecting the printer to the laptop. Hope this helps

you need to install a printer driver.
Go to control printers & faxes (Start Menu)
Click 'add a new printer'.
Click on 'let windows find the software (or driver)'.
If the required printer driver is not on your harddrive, you can download one from the HP website.
The downloaded drivers usually self-install (if they have an .exe extension).
If it doesn't have an .exe extension and when the 'add printer' wizard asks for the software, click on the BROWSE button and navigate to the folder where the printer driver is (if you put it on your desktop you'll find it quickly)
