What do you think this means? In your opinion, which person or perspective has had the most influence on the growth of psychology?

I believe that it means that although people have always thought about the reasons that others act the way they do, it did not become an official study until the 1800's. "ology" refers to the study of something, in this case the psyche. One of the philosophers, Aristotle or Plato, I can't remember which, talked about people who were phlegmatic, melancholy, choleric, or sanguine. That was a new concept.
Freud probably had the most influence on the growth of psychology because he was the first to cause it to be talked about by the public. It wasn't all good talk, but the public started realizing that there was such a thing as psychology.
Tom Cruise has brought psychology back into the limelight again. LOL

It means that the profession of psychology has not been around very long. It also means that the person that you are, and certain personality traits that you have, are as the result of YOUR entire life's history, as well as your PARENT'S, and THEIR PARENT'S...etc.
