The Monotreme family are egg laying mammals, better known as The Platypus and theShort Beaked Echidna and the Long Beaked Echidna. The Platypus is found in Australia, and the Echidna in Australia and New Guinea.

There is more then one egg-laying mammal. The platypus is probably the one you are thinking of, but there are several varieties of echidna (Also known as spiny anteater), found in Australia and New Guinea, that lay eggs as well.
