I can no longer use my monitor as often, due to the worsening of my condition. Is there an inexpensive way to set up my monitor so I can change positons, print, scan, all of which require it,s use. I have limited space in my house, so have been looking into some kind of mounting of the monitor to an arm=type device, but have not found any that are suitable. I need it to protrude from wall as well as move up and down. I know without unlimited funds, this may be difficult, but someone here might just have the same health issues I do. If so, please let me know how you set it up and what it entails. Thank you to anyone that can help. Gina

Hey Gina,

I'm sorry to hear that you have so much trouble moving your neck, and understand why you would want to be able to use a computer.

Ergotron (http://www.ergotron.com) has some great monitor mounts for desks, walls, standing, mobile, different colors, up and down, side to side, etc.

I would try the quick finder (http://www.ergotron.com/tabid/267/language/en-US/default.aspx) and see what you can get.

The overwhelming amount of flat screen monitors are VESA compatible (VESA Mounting Interface Standard). You can check your monitor at ergotron (http://internalapps.ergotron.com/mirwebtool/default.aspx)

If it is compatible, I believe that Ergotron provides the hardware to do the job. You pick a spot on the wall, mount it on the wall/desk. Remove the stand from the monitor, mount it on the Ergotron stand/arm. You'd probably want two people, with a full range of movement (probably not yourself ;) ) to do it, since the person may have to hold the monitor for a few minutes.

I have heard a lot of good stuff about Ergotron, and their products seem to be reasonably priced. The plus is, if you buy a new monitor, you could unmount the old one and put a new one on- helps to make it worth it.

Hope this helps you!

I had looked for some way to do the same thing but my neck isn't bad enough for it to be a necessity so I did the shopping but not the buying.

Here is what I found. I looked at the standard mounts that clamp onto a back corner of the desk. They let the monitor go up and down and pivot sideways or rotate top out or top in. They all did what you are asking and they were all the standard ones that all the usual places like Staples, CompUSA, and Office Max carry. None were very expensive (under $50) and all end up on sale periodically at very cheap prices (about $10 for closeouts). They support standard size monitors with no difficulty. You can look online for Microcenter which carries them and is usually cheap particularly if they are on clearance.

why not trying wireless monitors ? I purchased a viewsonic Air Panel v150 smat display, with its wireless adaptor, for less than 400$, from Overstock.com, you can find it also on Ebay, or elswhere on the net, note that this is a touch screen monitor, with built in speakers, so also you will not need a keyboard, although it has a USB port on it to plug a keyboard, so not only you can work on your PC laying in your bed, but also you can surf the net, listen to audio and watch video anywhere inside your house, I got mine with a free offer from viewsonic, I just had to call them and give them my screen serial number, and they sent for me a PCMCIA card called Nevo, which, when you plug it into your wireless monitor, will transform it into a universal infrard remote control, with which you can control up to 8 or more devices by a touch on your monitor.

Too good to be true ? search for it on the net, you will find more.
