1,000 White Women by Jim Fergus

One Thousand White Women is a work of historical fiction that takes readers on a journey back in time to the pioneer days of the American West. Through the journal entries of May Dodd, we are introduced to a colorful assembly of pioneer women, many of whom have been recently released from prisons and mental wards. The group travels to the western prairies in 1875 to intermarry among the Cheyenne Indians as part of the secret and controversial "Brides for Indians" program launched by the United States Government. May finds herself married to Chief Little Wolf, and she and the other women struggle to make sense of their new lives caught between two worlds. Fergus creates rich and memorable characters and paints a vivid portrait of the physical and cultural landscapes of the Old West. So well written is Fergus’s account, readers will have a difficult time separating fact from fiction. One of the main characters is a nonfictional person.

it's a fast read.

I've read hundreds of good books. It depends what kind of reading you are interested in. I love romance, thrillers, science fiction, horror, some mysteries, historical--all different kinds of books. One of my all-time favorites is Watchers by Dean Koontz. If you've seen the movie, don't go by THAT! That was a total mess and was completely different from the book. The Stand by Stephen King is also excellent. As for romance, you can't go wrong with Celeste Bradley and Eloisa James. Also Liz Carlyle, Julianne MacLean, Amanda Quick, Julia Quinn, Lisa Kleypas and Julia London for romance. James Patterson is good for legal and political thrillers. I could go on and on but I won't.

I LOVE jodie picoult....she is my favorite author. I love "Plain Truth", "Vanishing Acts", "My Sister's Keeper", and "The Tenth Circle" the best :-)

I also love books by Amy Tan (such as "The Joy Luck Club" and "The Kitchen God's Wife") and I love the two books by Risa Green ("Notes from the Underbelly" and "Tales from the Crib").
