Look in your documentation Linda. Chances are, it calls for you to insert the first recovery disk into the drive, then power down or re-start your computer.

Re-formatting and reloading your system is a very time-consuming and drastic procedure, so I always ask WHY do you think that was necessary?

I just had to do the same thing recently. When you insert the backup disc, go to My Computer and open the disc from there. Then drag and drop the files back onto the computer. It might take a while for the files to transfer but that's how it's done.
