Some people are just that creeped out by bugs. Its a good touch to scare those people even if nothing else does. Fear of insects in general is one of the most common fears in our society. For example, I deployed in the Army with two grown men who would run screaming and later cry over any bug that crossed their path. Even lady bugs. So of course they are terrified of flies.

Rotting flesh attracts several sorts of insects --- that's natural.
And it is very creepy. I don't like that noise of flying flies,
that "humming" ---- kills me. I could never sleep in a room
with ONE fly in it...
