For the most effect, stay east, go south (more hurricanes hit) and stay on the ocean. Hurricanes normally come from the south, being spawned out in the tropical oceans. On the ocean shores, there are more effects, since the hurricane force diminishes as it travels over land. San Diego can get hit but east coast get many more storms. Miami is more affected than New York City by being south.

I live in Florida, and was greatly affected by Charlie, Francis, Jean and Ivan. We were without power and the area was devastated. I believe we are most suspectible, as we border both the Atlantic ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

The southeastern coast because that's where hurricanes happen the most.
