I,ve read up on both vehicles, the LX TDCI(130) Mondeo seems great...Although they get re-ocurring elec faults and the occasional injector probs on diesels.
Laguna 2, seems lot more stylish, similar injector probs, but really like the look of the starting ingnition button, they seem to have alot of electric window faults and the mondeo looks 10bhp more powerful. Though the laguna looks very stylish.....
so which one and why?? and i only want 2000cc diesel versions.
trim level is not a prob.

dont touch the laguna11 with a 10ft pole, I had one and their isnt enough time in the day to tell you about all the faults, but both front elec window cables did break, Hows £250 per motor sound plus fitting. Steer clear or you'll have an empty wallet for as long as you own the car.

Some people tend to generalize their own problems, don't they?
However, go for the Laguna. I'm giving this advice wholeheartedly. My dad bought a Laguna 2 last summer, diesel engine and it's really great. Just think of all that torque, almost 350 Nm... you're gonna fly when you hit the gas pedal. Very good when overtaking a car while going up a slope. Stylish interior. I have the Dynamique 1.9 version, but with handsfree device installed (the card has a chip inside that communicates with the car when you are around it, so you can open the door without pushing any buttons and start the engine without putting the card in the slot - great if you forget in which pocket you put the key in). I love it.
My car is a Megane Classic, gas version. I've had no problems with it, and I've had it for five years now. Runs perfect, no electrical problems, nothing. Just the stuff you have to change anyway, when you're supposed to change them and not before.
Go for the Laguna. Well worth it.

Cant compare them, but I bought a new Mondeo diesel Ghia TDCI four years ago. Its done 78000, a lot of it at high speed and it has never so much as hicupped in that time. It is comfortable, a pleasure to drive and returns 51 to 58 mpg. My next will be a Mondeo.

Ford Mondeo because it has better style, better performance, low maintenance, better value than Renault Laguna 2.
