Thyroid problems may be a possibility, but just one of many. Chances are, the problems is hormonal. This is not to say that menopause is imminent, but your age is a factor. Reproduction is no longer one of your body's primary goals. If the cycle has become shorter, or periods are heavier and last longer, you may have a fibroids. Your doctor should be able to pinpoint a cause and put your fears to rest. Birth control pills will often be prescribed to regulate the menstrual cycle.

It could be so many things. I went through that also in my mid to late 30's. It lasted many years actaully. There were even times I had to take medication in order to induce the onset of my periods again. I went to several Doctors at that time. They did thyroid tests and other tests too, however, no one came up with a real reason. I was also told I could not get pregnant either. It was a really hard time, needless to say, so I feel for you.

It would not hurt to go have some tests done. You should always be cautious instead of negligent. It's always better to be aware. In the end, my periods actually started coming back like clockwork after I stopped a job that kept me traveling all over. I was also hot as happy during that time and I think it really manifested itself in my system.

Lastly, I did give birth at age 40! The Doctors said it wouldn't happen, but that just goes to show, they are not always right. You may also take a look at some holistic specialists and procedures.

Good luck.

not nessarcaly. it can be a cause of multiple things. Some people just do not have regular periods. It could be because of your diet. If your diet isnt great due to lack of eating or bulmic tendencies then sometimes you will never have a regular period. If you really wish to have a regular period talk to your doctor about birth control. It is a great way to get your period on a scuedule.
