I want to take power from my bungalow to a small workshop within the area of the bungalow, it will be for light use only,ie no electric welders etc.Another project is to install a weatherproof socket and outside light.

If you are in the UK I'm afraid with the new legislation you need a professional for this job.

Call an electrician who will do a decent job, and you
will not get a shock, neither from the extension nor
for the fees you will have to pay. Play safe and have
it done correctly.

call in an electrical contractor, this work is reportable to the local aurthority under Part P building regulations and unless you get the job certified correctly you will have problems if you ever want to sell the property.

Check to see if you have enough room in your breaker box for another breaker. Get direct burial wire (it's grey}.Then dig a trench to run it. lights only need 15 amps, but I'd run 20 amps while you're at it. It can't hurt to run heavier than needed wire underground.

You will have follow Part P of the building regs. Get it from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
