I'm applying to university of north carolina wilmington and I need to write two essays. They gave topics to write about so its not that I need help with choosing a topic. The first essay is about why i want to go there, and the second essay question is what does engaged learning mean to me? I feel like I haven't learned anything in English class throughout highschool. I cant even remember how to write an essay. This sounds stupid but will I need to have a 5 paragraph essay? or do I just need a introduction w/ a thesis statement, a body paragraph, and a conclusion? Im just so nervous I forgot what I need to do.

Wow, a fellow seahawk, or soon to be. I applied for early admissions, so I know the stress you are feeling at this moment. Ok, take a deep breath and don't freak out. Your acceptance is not completely based on these two essays. They are simply there for the poor souls in admissions to take a break and get to know you a little better, instead of judging you as a gpa or sat score.

What I simply did was start off with an introduction. Explaining what I would be discussing and then launched right into the body of the essays. Explaining why I wanted to attend (and for the other, explaining what an engaged learner was to me). For the first essay I did stick with the 5-paragraph essay. However, with the engaged learner essay I simply had an introduction, a body, and a conclusion.

I hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!

You need an introduction paragraph and conclusion paragraph; the number of paragraphs in the body depends on how much you have to say - there is no set number. Good luck!
