If Joe Namath were on top of a building and he threw a football, it could travel 100 yards or more. Did he say what direction he'd be throwing it in? Vertical vs. Horizontal could make the difference.

Joe Namath can only throw it 60 yards in perfect weather. However, in football run after the catch is accounted for in the passing yard, thus if Joe threw it 10 yards and his receiver caught it and ran it for another 90 yards, then the stat will show a 100 yards pass.

Just as the human limit for throwing a baseball seems to be a little over 100mph, the human limit for throwing a football is probably a little over 60 yards.
