Being a young person you have the whole world in front of you. Because of the changing technologies nowadays its most important to be in tune with the digital life. The cameras are changing fast and so is the way projects are displayed. learning how to read scripts and break down projects are all in book you can take advantage of now. Shoot Shoot Shoot!Young people now may never get the chance to expose film. Its very expensive to go the process and the producers are going for good, cheap or fast. You only get to pick two. They will always go for cheap and fast. Therefore you must break into the business being user friendly with the producers need to survive. The new film maker now has never tasted steak so they are happy with hamburger instead. That makes it difficult to really produce quality material. But due to the new world avenues to display material like youtube and Ifilm.com and others you really have the possibllity to show your projects to mass media. "Shoot for the moon and you may catch a star". That has always been my goal. So in a nut shell, learn the new cameras and the manipulations that are possible. Get good grades in school now. That will open doors for you for ever. You must work on communication skills as well. A good education helps you speak with the people in power. They are sharp and will only listen to you if you have something to say and ,just as important, to communicate your ideas to them. You cannot ramble on and on. They will lose interest. Therefore school is key. I don't know where you live but hopefully you can find a commercial camera rental house in the area. Not the neighborhood camera store. Also try to intern at a post house. Learn what they can do with raw images. Tell them you will take out the trash, clean camera cases, anything to sell yourself to get into the door. Be persistant. If they keep seeing you trying to get in, one day they will give you a break. Its not about money at this point. Its about meeting quality perple and getting mentors to help you out. One connection leads to another and on and on. Don't be afraid to ask even the dumbest questions. Get it out of the way. Learn what you need to with exposure both for film and digital formats. Ask to sit in on any editing sessions available. Ask the dumb stuff now. People love to help others if they realize the person is sincere and trying. Don't pretend to know it all. They don't care what you think or say. Keep your mouth quiet and listen to others who are there. Learn editing and camera movement by watching classics. The new films are great but filmmakers are using computers to slip out of trouble and fix mistakes. Do your home work and be prepared. Think out of the box. Try to get a camera and see if you can seek out a local band. Ask them if you can tag along to film a music video of them. They would love that. Shoot it and add music, creative cuts and stuff like that. That way they can walk away with something to help them. Its great practice and it is film making. Take risks with ideas and try them out. Don't ever be told to stop trying. People will try to discourage you. Don't. Come to Hollywood, take a few film classes that are hands on' Hollywood Film School for one. Don't put too much time in the class room. A film degree here is useless. You want to be a film maker not a teacher. Teach later after 40 years of film making. Being so young boxes you out of many things right now but you still can try to get the stratagy moving and meeting people. Asking questions. Try to come to Hollywood and become a production assistant. You will really learn how tough it is and how much you must learn. But thats how you learn the real world of motion pictures. Good luck and don't give up! I hope to one day see one of your films.

The best you can do is study hard in your current school. It's hard if you don't live in an area that has schools that major in the arts, but usually they don't have one type of high school that you will be focusing on future directing/producing. Once you get good grades it makes it easier to get into a good college that has the best film/art direction classes & programs you can take. It's good to broaden your horizon & stay open to all aspects of making movies, so I would just try to take radio broadcasting if it's available in your school or if your school has a filming class like local news type, it will help! Good luck in the future!
