Probably a driver corruption. Go to the device manager and uninstall the DVD drive and then restart the computer. The drivers will automatically reload. Just wait for the balloon message to disappear from the tray. There is no longer any Microsoft support for Win98 or for WinXP SP1. I thought it (Win98) was a pretty good O.S. though.

It's a resource problem.
Given the age of any PC running Win98 your CPU is simply struggling with the data.

Once the data is cached it appears to be working ... that's why it happens after a while.

Sorry, but there is no real fix for this ... besides a more powerful PC with Windows XP or at least Windows 2000.

ok it sounds like your drive either has a problom with it or its Windows 98

Im temted to say its 98, windows xp home dosent cost alot so y not upgrade?

BUT if you really want that DVD to work on 98 i thing that you need to take it to a pro.

either that or upgrade

Sounds like you don't have a DVD-ROM and your CD-ROM is aging
