Roman first/Greek equivalent second, except for Uranus. There's 7 (Wait, only 6 if Pluto isn't a planet...):
Mercury/Hermes: Messenger of the gods
Venus/Aphrodite: Goddess of beauty
Mars/Ares: God of war
Jupiter/Zeus: Father of the gods
Saturn/Kronos?: Titan
Uranus/?: Titan. This is Greek not Roman. In Roman its Caelus
Neptune/Poseidon: God of the sea
Pluto/Hades: God of the Underworld.

Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter... possibly Saturn. I don't think they knew about any others though they were given names of Roman gods just like the others for tradition's sake. Neptune, Uranus and Pluto are also Roman - 'Xena' which I've read about recently isn't. Its from a Persian word for woman.

Because they were probably named by the Romans during the days when they worshiped those gods.
