No flame can be because a limit or safety switch is doing it's job or your ignition device is burnt out. If you have a glow bar type unit it should glow within 30 seconds after a call for heat. i suggest you turn the furnace power switch off and the on and watch to see if it glows or if you hear a click at about 30 sec
if not it would indicate you have a venting or limit problem. That would have to be taken care of by a service man. Most (99%) of 80 plus furnaces have no thermocouple.

Just worked on a Quiet 80 yesterday. Had a bad rollout switch,The items that possum talked about. This one had a spark igniter instead of glow coil though. If one of the rollouts was tripped, call a pro to check your furnace, don't just replace it. They are set to trip out at 250 degrees! Only replace after flue, gas pressure, etc. checks out. Keith

after checking to see that the hot surface igniter is coming on and glowing (i assume the gas is on) look above the burner assembly. there will be small switches (dime sized) with 2 wires on them. these are flame roll out switches, and have a small red reset button on them. it resetting the switch solves the problem, then u are good to go. rheem furnaces were problematic in this area. if you have to reset the switch often, its time to replace the switch, or call a pro.
you might also check the pressure switch. its either a brass colored, or black can... about the size of a Copenhagen can and will have a hose (or 2) running from it to the induced draft blower. check the hose(s) for rot. if the hose (s) is (are) good remove the hose from the blower and GENTLY blow suck on it while listening for the switch to click. on some switches you can actually see the plunger move in and out. you could pet an ohm meter on the switch to actually check the switch as u actuate it.

Make sure the gas is on. If it is, see if the thermocouple is heating up. If it isn't, it is probably bad. Could also be the electronic ignition not working. Call an HVAC tech if these are not working and go from there. Good luck.

I would agree with avengergt. sounds like a thermal-coupl or a safety. also is the draft inducer new? if it is there is a certain distance it must be from the burner or else it will "lift" the flame off and out.
