You will have to bio tap the system, using UV light and required filters. You will also have to go through a process of popping the water. Getting the nitrite and nitrate levels just right.

I suggest going to an aquarium store that specializes in salt water aquariums and doing some research.

you invest a LOT of time and money. You first take out everything freshwater and strip it down to the hardware. Then you need to add; proper lighting, a sump, sand and live rock, power heads, protien skimmer and, of course, MARINE salt. That is JUST the BARE minimum. You let that all cycle for about 6 weeks with no lights keeping temp and salinity stable, you need a hydrometer.

THEN you start shopping for things. I recommend a reef to start, which needs a minimun of a 65 gallon tank. That is, unless you buy a pre-set up nano reef of some type, then you follow the instructions that comes with the kit.

Unless you've got metal hallide an atinic lighting, you can't keep corals.

Talk to people at your local marine tank aquarium store to see what suits your set up. Once you have your creepy crawlies, crabs, anenomes, feather dusters, shrimp, etc. Established then you can move into fish.

Done right it takes about 6 months to get set up and done stable. Well, less, but I'm giving time for mistakes at first. And if you spend less then say $3000 on it, you've got a VERY good deal.

It is worthwhile in the end, but a pain in the butt to start.

I honestly have lately grew to grow to be my ten gallon freshwater tank right into a salt water quarantine tank. right it truly is what i might want to point you do a million. empty and throw out all substrate, plant decorations and filter out media. 2. rinse the tank out nicely and fill with salt water blended to a s.g. of one million.022 (you'll pick a hydrometer and distilled/opposite osmosis wiped clean water). replace the florescent gentle with new helpful ones and purchase new filter out media (you pick a filter out that strikes a minimum of ten gallons/hour for each gallon contained in the tank and it must have mechanical, organic and organic and chemical filtration). i might want to point a wave maker besides - it keeps the slime blooms to a minimum. 3. upload 3 or 4 inches of beaten aragonite/stay sand as a substrate and one pound of stay rock for each gallon of water (the more effective porous the more effective useful). 4. try the water oftentimes with a marine try kit. The tank would have spikes in ammonia, nitrite and nitrate and then settle out. 5. upload your sparkling-up team and a protein skimmer, protecting a watch for any more effective spikes on your tank. 6. upload fish - do your learn first, many puppy keep workers in consumer-friendly words sound like they comprehend what they're speaking about. it truly is for a fish in consumer-friendly words with stay rock tank (FOWLR). it truly is going to artwork in case you pick to operate gorgonians, followers, anemones, mushrooms and zooantids, yet then you definitely could commence including water supplementations.
