do i need the commas in this sentence:

"This is the case with the character, Holden, from my novel."

can i leave it instead as:
"This is the case with the character Holden from my novel."
?

I guess you could. Or you could even say, "This is the case with Holden, the character from my novel."

You should leave the comma because the name Holden is added information and not a critical part of the sentence.

I would say you should do "This is the case with the character, Holden, from my novel." "Holden" is used as an appositive in the sentence.

i would have the commas to be safe, it is antecedent.
