I went to a new gynecologist, because my usual doctor (female) wasn't there.
My worst nightmare was to have a male doctor. Well that day it came true.
It was very uncomfortable. And ontop of that he also did a rectal examination. Is that normal? I have never had that done before and never afterwards.
Why do they do that? What it so different about the rectal and vaginal examniation? Meaning, if they can feel something different...
Anyone else out there who had that done at their anual check up at the gynecologist?

I'm not a virging
And he didn't ask me either.
Allthough he did say he's doing something rectal to the nurse that was standing in the room.
Before i knew it he said breath slowly and he put his finger up my anus.
But it's nice to hear that this is a normal procedure. I've never had it happen before...

Yes, I have had it done once. I didn't like it either. My currenty OBGYN doesn't do it, thankfully.
Yes, they need to explain the procedure and tell you what they are going to do BEFORE they do it!
Here is a website where they talk about doing it during the pelvic exams:http://www.everettclinic.com/kbase/topic/medtest/hw4404/whydone.htm
A digital rectal exam (DRE)
Detect abnormalities of a woman's reproductive organs , such as the uterus and ovaries. It is usually done during a regularly scheduled pelvic examination and Pap test. It may also be done to investigate symptoms (such as pelvic pain or abnormal vaginal bleeding) that can indicate a problem with a woman's reproductive organs.
Help find the cause of symptoms such as rectal bleeding (blood in the stool), abdominal or pelvic pain, difficulty in urinating, or a change in bowel habits.
Collect a stool sample to test for blood in the stool.
Check for hemorrhoids or growths (such as cancer) in the rectum. Although a DRE is often included as part of a routine physical examination to screen for abnormal growths in the rectum, DRE alone is not used to diagnose colorectal cancer. Also, a DRE may not detect internal hemorrhoids because they are soft and difficult to feel; a sigmoidoscopy may be needed to diagnose internal hemorrhoids.
http://www.webmd.com/hw/colorectal_cancer/hw4404.asp
A woman is often examined while lying on her back on an examination table, with her feet raised and supported by stirrups. A rectovaginal exam is often done for women so that organs in the pelvic area can be evaluated.
Most women do not find a DRE painful. You may feel some pressure or discomfort when your health professional presses on your abdomen to feel the internal organs.
People with hemorrhoids, breaks in the skin around the anus (called anal fissures), or other anal sores may find a DRE more painful than people without these conditions.

I don't care for a male dr when it comes to that either! But, the rectal exam is a standard practice. Not to worry. Only lasta a few seconds and only once a year.

The Vagina and the rectum are very close anatomically and a rectal exam can be used to find abnormalites in the vaginal wall.

Rectal exam is a normal part of any gynecological examination. He shoul've asked you before sticking a finger in your bunghole though.
