If you want to go with regular potency catnip I would go with cosmic catnip which you can buy anywhere that pet supplies are sold. Its really cheap too, about $2 or $3 dollars for a tub that last quite a while even when used liberally. There is also a stronger catnip you can buy if your kitty gets bored with just the regular stuff-its called Mountain Lion Catnip-

Catnip, a member of the mint family, is a harmless "high" for felines. Although many cats will eat it, scientists say they're reacting to the smell rather than the taste. Felines bite, chew, rub against, and roll in catnip to release the volatile oil trapped in the leaves. Mountain Lion is harvested when this essential oil production reaches its peak, and leaves and fragrant flowers are carefully air-dried to preserve essential oils at their best.

Catnip is also actually good for a cats digestive system so you can sprinkle some in their food as well.

I'm not exactly sure with all the science but it's an herb of some kind that has the same effect as marijuana (without the health risks) would on a person, I believe cats are the only animal that have that kind of reaction to it but I could be wrong..

Catnip contains substances which are mildly hallucinogenic. It is used in herbal medicine as a mild sedative. Not all cats are interested in it, about 25% are indifferent to it.
