No, that is not true. However, guppies are tropicals and need a heater - goldfish do not. Also, goldfish tend to be pretty dirty fish which is also a great reason not to keep them with anything else.
Male guppies are much more colorful with longer fins and tails than females.

There are tropical and cold water fishes. Tropical fish come from warm places and need heated water. Cold water fish as the name implies live in cold places with cold water. These types of fish cannot be mixed. Goldfish are cold water, and also very dirty; guppies and many other types of fish are tropical, the water must be heated.
Female guppies are bigger and have a more rounded abdomen than males who also have the most color. You should always have at least 3 females to 1 male, better 5. One male will keep all of the females pregnant. In pairs, the male would wear out the female.

In my over 10 years of keeping and breeding goldfish I've never heard that they secret poison, they don't.
Goldfish are not compatible to live with other fish because their water parameters; heat, pH, KH and GH don't match any other fish commonly kept in the industry. The closest is some barbs and some rainbowfish.
Female guppies, like mollies and platys are BIG, fat and always pregnant. Males are thin and faster. ALSO, the anal fin of a male is pointed, (looks more like a penis) and on a female its a broad triangular sail.

Gold fish require much cooler water than guppies. So the choice becomes healthy, happy guppies or healthy, happy goldfish, but you can't have them both in one tank. Hope this helps. PeeTee --- Question 2 -- Male guppies have a modified ventral fin called a gonopodium, sort of gathered up to form a tube to deliver their sperm to the female's vent. The females have a more normal looking ventral fin, sort of fan shaped. Also most guppy males have at least some color on their tails and sides. The females may or may not have some color and will grow to 2 or 3 times the size of the males. Again I hope this is of help. goldfish are best with other goldfish. they have quirky dispositions that go best with each other. they like to nip at each other but don't do damage to their fins like other fish can and will do. at the same time i tried putting bamboo shrimp in my goldfish and the goldfish treated them like their new favorite toys -- not what bamboo shrimp like exactly.
Goldfish prefer water cooler than other fish which is a big reason to keep them alone. They also tolerate a larger amount of variation in their water ph and make a huge amount of waste. goldfish are generally fat and round compared to other fish which are more trim.
Guppies are easier to sex when they are older and they are kept in their family. The males will be a lot more colorful. More common males will look like well bred females though. There is a spot called the gravid spot but young males often have them and they come and go so often people often think guppies change sex -- which of course is not true but if you are judging by gravid spots you would think they were.
If you want to keep guppies there are lots of other fish that get along well with them -- tetras, danios, rasboras, corys, just to name a few.

goldfish go to the bathroom alot so if you dont have very good filtration in the tank then the chemicals in there urine will hurt other fish before it will hurt the goldfish. right now i have a 15 gallon tank with three goldfish a pleco. and some sort of loach. everything is fine in that but i do a water cchange a couple of times a week and change filter cartrages every two weeks.
the guppies im not really sure about.

Male guppies are generally far more colourful and have bigger tails. Goldfish can be mixed with other fish, but you have to keep water tempurature in mind.

I have had 7 aquariums in my house all up and running, now I have 3 large ones, but yes, goldfish can be in with other fish, catfish eat a lot of the waste in tanks, just make sure your tank is large because they can get quite big. Also painted turtles are neat in large aquariums, you just have to make one end of the tank an
(island) so the turtles can get out and bathe in the light.
